Experts say how to find love in the age of coronavirus

Three-quarters of single Brits are looking for a fresh start, with a third (33%) looking for a change in their love life and on the look-out for a romantic partner.

54% of singles are so eager to find a new partner in the near future that two in five plan to get fitter, eat healthier, and download a dating app (27%) to help them on their search.

If you’re a single Brit looking to dive into the new world of dating (mask-and all), or someone who just needs a bit of a spruce up in the relationship area, experts at international dating app, happn have drawn up the top nine ways to spring clean your love life this September.

Step Back

Before we fall back into the same old habits, with your same old type, we need to take a moment to see where we’re starting from. It’s all very well knowing that the big clean up needs to get done, but the ‘doing’ part can be a little overwhelming.

So, take a moment to really see who is gathering dust on the shelf.

Ask yourself: what does this person give to me? And what does this person take from me.

Clear the Deck

Start from the top. Let’s go a little Mrs Hinch here and get into all the nooks and crannies that may be hiding all sorts of unwelcome ‘treats’.

To make an actual improvement to our relationship shelf, we need to get rid of those we’ve been hanging onto. If they haven’t worked up til now, they won’t in the future. So brush them away, and create the space you need.

Look for the Shine

Now we’ve got rid of those hard to reach stains, it’s time to find the shine.

And here’s the secret… the shine is YOU!

Who’s the ‘you’ that you want to be when you’re with the right person, and what do you want?

Fun? Serious? Whatever you’re after, be certain that ‘you’ are on the same page as your thoughts. Look into your soul and find the best version of you.

And by ‘best’, we mean the most you-est-you you can ever be.

What do you Need?

Who is going to fit on your newly shined and spacious shelf, and how much room are they going to take up?

We need to think about who we need our other half to be. It’s time to critically define what kinds of virtues and personality traits are going to compliment yours.

Find those key qualities and instead of focusing on what looks good on your shelf aesthetically, choose what will fill those spaces up and feed your soul hand-in-hand

Find Your Why?

Once we’ve discovered the ‘what’, it’s time to ask yourself truly and honestly, why?

Why are you considering beginning your search for a new partner? Why is this partner going to make your life better?

Why is now the time for you to reconsider your love life and take a step forward in your spring-cleaning journey?

We really can’t answer these questions for you, but just remember what we’re asking.

Where to Look

So now that you know what and who it is you’re looking for, check back to step 4 and ask yourself if the guy who slides into your DMs fits the bill…

If unwanted messages aren’t doing it for you (shock), then try something new. There is an assortment of dating apps to choose from, all offering different ways to fulfil your needs.

Happn gives you the chance to meet up with someone close by and its new FlashNote feature lets you send a quick message to gage your crushes interest from the get-go.

2020’s a weird one right, so why not throw caution to the wind and look somewhere new!

Take Your Time

Rome wasn’t built in a day… and your love life concerns aren’t going to pull an instant 360 overnight.

We’ve surely established by now that everyone is on their own path, right? There isn’t an actual check list that you have to fulfil in order to graduate into a fully-fledged success?

When you start to meet new people again, dip your toes in to check the water before diving in too fast.

Slow and steady really does win the race.

Prepare for the Upkeep

Mistakes are inevitable. But what do we do? We learn and move forward. Time and time again.

It’s a tough world out there at the best of times and it’s hard to get into new habits too. But you better believe that it’s ok to wrap yourself up on the sofa and ignore the world for a day or so if you want to.

Just don’t forget to dust yourself off (and your shelf!), forgive and move on.

And finally, LOVE the journey

Dating is bloomin’ fun, so don’t forget that.

You’ll meet some characters. Some might take up residence on your shelf for a while, and some will just pass you by. But that doesn’t mean that love isn’t meant for you.

Let’s be real… finding love is one of the hardest challenges you’ll face, SO give yourself a break, a hug, a glass of bubbly or a whole box of chocolate and have fun on your hunt for the one!

Carry your anti-bac and put yourself first. After all, we only get one magical, insane life right?
